IBM has announced a strategic move to acquire Software AG’s enterprise integration platforms, StreamSets and webMethods, in a €2.13 billion deal. This acquisition aims to fortify IBM’s capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI) and hybrid cloud solutions.

The StreamSets and webMethods platforms, integral components of Software AG’s Super Ipaas business, offer robust functionalities such as application integration, API management, and data integration. IBM envisions leveraging these technologies to enhance its AI and hybrid cloud offerings, further solidifying its position in the evolving landscape of enterprise solutions.

Christian Lucas, head of the supervisory board of Software AG, expressed enthusiasm about the collaborative potential between StreamSets, webMethods, and IBM, stating, “The opportunity to bring the StreamSets and webMethods teams together with IBM to innovate in creating the future of hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence solutions for enterprises is unique.”

The acquisition, valuing Software AG’s enterprise tech business at €2.1 billion, is subject to regulatory approvals and is anticipated to conclude in the second quarter of 2024. This strategic move underlines IBM’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological innovation and offering advanced solutions to enterprises navigating the complexities of AI and hybrid cloud integration.
