Apple has officially unveiled CarPlay Ultra, the next-generation version of its acclaimed in-car software platform. Initially available with new Aston Martin vehicles in the US and Canada, CarPlay Ultra promises to transform how drivers interact with their cars by seamlessly integrating iPhone functionality across all vehicle screens. The feature will soon extend to existing supported models and additional automakers like Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis are preparing to adopt the technology.
CarPlay Ultra enhances the driver’s cockpit with dynamic, customizable information. Unlike previous versions, this iteration provides real-time data directly in the instrument cluster, including speedometers, tachometers, fuel levels, and temperature gauges, all beautifully rendered. It offers rich integration with iPhone apps, showing navigation, media playback, advanced driver assistance system alerts, and even tire pressure information—creating a fully connected driving experience.
Users can control CarPlay Ultra via touchscreen, physical buttons, or Siri voice commands, making it versatile and accessible. The new system also supports widgets powered by the iPhone that fit perfectly on the car’s screens, delivering glanceable information like weather updates or calendar events without distraction.
This update requires an iPhone 12 or newer running iOS 18.5 or later, reflecting Apple’s commitment to combining cutting-edge software with hardware innovation. Apple first announced this ambitious upgrade in 2022, with a planned 2024 release that experienced some delays. The exact timeline for wider rollout to other brands, such as Porsche, remains uncertain but is anticipated.
CarPlay Ultra represents Apple’s vision of a smarter, safer, and more intuitive driving experience, integrating technology deeper into vehicles than ever before. As automakers continue to collaborate with Apple, drivers can look forward to a new era of connected, personalized journeys.
