On May 7, Geely Galaxy took the wraps off its highly anticipated all-electric SUV, the E5, marking a significant milestone as the first of its kind in the Galaxy series. With an estimated price range of RMB 150,000-200,000 (USD 20,800-27,700), the E5 is poised to make waves in the electric vehicle market upon its official launch in the second quarter.
Based on the innovative Geely Electric Architecture (GEA), a derivative of the Sustainable Energy Architecture (SEA), the E5 represents a convergence of cutting-edge technology and eco-friendly design. Geely touts GEA as the world’s first intelligent AI architecture encompassing hardware, system, ecology, and artificial intelligence.
Standing at 4615/1901/1670 mm with a wheelbase of 2750 mm, the E5 boasts a sleek exterior featuring a closed matrix light grille, sharp headlights, and hidden door handles, reminiscent of its predecessor, the Geely Galaxy E8.
At the rear, an integrated high-mounted brake light and through-type taillight package with a distinctive wave-shaped light element accentuate the vehicle’s modern aesthetic.
While official powertrain specifications are yet to be disclosed, Geely has hinted at the adoption of an 11-in-1 smart electric drive and a Shendun battery, promising an impressive range of 2,000 km. Additionally, a single-motor variant showcased at China MIIT boasts a maximum power of 160 kW and utilizes a lithium iron phosphate battery, reaching a top speed of 175 km/h.
Inside the cabin, a minimalist design ethos prevails, featuring a dual flat-bottom steering wheel, a head-up display, and a full LCD instrument panel. The centerpiece is a large central control screen seamlessly integrating the Flyme Auto operating system powered by the 7nm Dragon Eagle-1 chip.
Moreover, the E5 offers a range of advanced features including OTA updates, wireless mobile phone charging, heated/ventilated/8-point massage front seats, and a premium 16-speaker audio system, ensuring a luxurious and technologically advanced driving experience.
Geely’s unveiling of the Galaxy E5 underscores its commitment to innovation and sustainability in the automotive industry, setting a new benchmark for electric SUVs.
