SoftBank has taken a major step toward 6G by proving centimeter-wave communication works in real city settings. The company tested the 7GHz band in Ginza and demonstrated that high-quality coverage is possible even in crowded areas.
Engineers installed three experimental base stations in Tokyo and measured signal strength and coverage. The results showed strong connectivity on main streets and steady reception in narrow alleys.
Quality remained stable throughout the district. Tests showed SINR values at 0dB or above across the entire area, with a median of 5.9dB.
This trial suggests the 7GHz band could support future AI-driven services. SoftBank says it proved the band can offer both wide coverage and high communication performance.
