A pottery class turned out to be more effective at getting strangers to actually meet than a decade of algorithm tweaks ever managed. That’s the early signal behind Tinder’s push to expand its Events feature well beyond its original test market.
From One Pilot City to Nine More
After launching in Los Angeles in March, Events drew engagement from 66% of eligible active users in that market across more than 60 gatherings. Tinder is now rolling the feature out to New York, Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, and several European cities, with a target of 26 total markets by the end of September.
Why Younger Users Are Responding
The pilot data shows a clear generational split: 71% of users aged 18 to 24 engaged with Events, compared to 63% of those 25 and older. Group activities built around a shared interest, rather than one-on-one meetups, appear to lower the pressure that often comes with traditional dating app matches.
A Feature Wrapped in Marketing
Tinder is backing the expansion with creator partnerships, out-of-home ads, and local activations, including placements at New York’s Bedford Ave subway station. The push comes as the app works to reverse years of declining monthly active users, with year-over-year losses recently slowing to their lowest rate in over two years.
