Visa has announced a new partnership with OpenAI that will allow ChatGPT to not only recommend products but also purchase them directly on behalf of users. Under the system, consumers can connect Visa payment credentials to ChatGPT and authorize the AI agent to shop within specific parameters. A user looking for wireless headphones under a certain budget, for example, could ask ChatGPT to find the best option and complete the purchase automatically.
The collaboration addresses a major obstacle that has limited previous AI shopping experiments: payment infrastructure.
