XChat has officially appeared on the App Store, signaling a full rollout of X’s new dedicated messaging platform. The app, developed by X (formerly Twitter), is expected to launch globally for iPhone and iPad users on April 17, 2026.
XChat introduces end-to-end encryption as a core feature, positioning itself alongside privacy-focused competitors like WhatsApp and Signal. The app also includes disappearing messages, message editing, group chats, and voice/video calling. Another notable addition is screenshot blocking, preventing users from capturing chat content.
The release follows several months of beta testing with limited users. X has been gradually shifting toward a “super-app” model, integrating communication, social networking, and future financial tools under one ecosystem.
The move reflects a broader strategy by Elon Musk to transform X into a multifunctional platform similar to China’s WeChat. Industry observers suggest XChat could become a key pillar in that transformation, depending on adoption rates and trust in its encryption claims.
