Instagram is expanding a feature that filters out @sensitive’ content that can affect the reach of some accounts.
Using Sensitive Content Control in the Settings menu, users can choose how much or how little sensitive content they see in Search, Reels, Accounts You Might Follow, Hashtag Pages and In-Feed Recommendations.
Sensitive content controls were first introduced in July 2021, though they only applied to the Explore channel
If you post content that Instagram considers sensitive, ‘ your posts may see reduced reach if enough people start using Sensitive Content Control.

Sensitive Content Control filters out content that could affect community safety
Sensitive content is defined by Instagram as “posts that don’t necessarily violate our rules, but could potentially upset some people.”
Specifically, this includes:
Content that may depict violence, including fighting.
Content that may be sexually explicit or suggestive, like pictures of people wearing transparent clothing.
Content that encourages the use of certain regulated products, including tobacco or vapor products, adult products and services, or pharmaceuticals.
Content that may promote or depict cosmetic procedures.
Content that may attempt to sell products or services based on health-related claims, such as a supplement to help you lose weight.
Content management options.
There are three options for managing sensitive content on Instagram.
These options are as follows:
Standard: This is the default state that restricts some content.
More: Allows users to opt out of more sensitive content.
Less: Restricts sensitive content to a greater extent than the default state.
The More option is not available for users under 18 years old.
Instagram tools Aim to let users customize the experience
This Sensitive Content Control update is the latest addition to the series of tools offered by the social media platform that allow users to shape their own Instagram experience.
Other features include Comment Control, Limit, Block and Mute. Instagram hopes to improve and expand these tools over time.
To change sensitive content management, follow these steps:
Click on “Settings” on your profile page.
Click “Account, then “Sensitive Content Control.”
Select which level of content you want to apply.
Click “Confirm.”
