Samsung left the audience in anticipation with a glimpse of their upcoming fitness innovation – the Galaxy Ring smart ring.
Details about the Galaxy Ring remain scant, with only a render and a name revealed so far. Samsung tantalizes consumers with the promise of a “powerful and affordable” health device, keeping specs, pricing, and release dates under wraps for now.
The journey to the Galaxy Ring began last year when Samsung filed a patent for a smart ring designed to offer features such as ECG monitoring and smart home management. Subsequently, hints of the device surfaced in the Health app, sparking speculation.
In an interview with Techradar, Patrick Chomet, Samsung’s head of customer experience, provided a sneak peek into the Galaxy Ring’s potential features, particularly emphasizing its capabilities related to sleep.
“We’re creating some things with Samsung Health that are really amazing (regarding sleep). There’s already hardware and software. But we’re looking to create a complete package that people will use at scale. That will happen later this year,” Chomet teased.
Given Chomet’s revelation, the full unveiling of the Galaxy Ring is expected at the next Unpacked event, likely scheduled between July and August. Samsung hinted at a significant Health program update slated for later this year, hinting at a simultaneous launch with the Galaxy Ring.
While Samsung enters the smart ring arena, it acknowledges predecessors like Oura, which has already made waves with similar devices capable of tracking sleep, monitoring heart rates during workouts, and ensuring users meet daily activity goals. The Galaxy Ring is poised to match these capabilities, with the added promise of potential AI enhancements as technology advances. As the tech giant ventures into the realm of wearable health tech, consumers eagerly await the Galaxy Ring’s debut and the promise of a comprehensive fitness companion.
